Contact Sheets

I ended up going to bed pretty early last night. I was fast asleep by midnight; I was exhausted. I guess it’s because I had to goto the Columbia Mall to run some errands with my grandfather. Note to self: Do not go to the mall around Christmas time.

Anyways, after that I saw Juno with Katharine and Shams. I may get around to writing about it some other time. It was good, but not great. Last night I went to Silver Spring to celebrate my friend Avi’s birthday party. We all went to an Indian Restaurant, it was good fun. I decided to drive home after this because if I decided not to I’d probably fall asleep at the wheel. Everyone else went back to my friend’s apartment and played a pretty intense game of Risk. I think that’s the reason I left. Shit gets real when they play risk. All bets are off, and it’s all business. It gets the worst of people.

I woke up this morning to a pleasant surprise. Before I left Seattle, I gave my good friend Tim my first three rolls of black and white film to get developed while I was gone. He sent me scans of the contact sheets last night but I didn’t check my email till this morning.

I’m excited. I leave to go back to Seattle in a few hours. My whole mom’s side of the family will be out there so it will be good times.

Get hyped 206.

Tuesday (12/18/2007)
So I attempted to sleep in Tuesday but completely failed. I woke up at around 8AM and couldn’t fall back asleep. I figured I would kill time until 9 and then head into Baltimore for the hell of it. By 10 in the morning I was in Fells Point, Baltimore. It’s crazy how different this city is in the morning. Everything is so alive and vivid, I’ve never seen the city like that before. It’s a completely different city by night, both in a positive and negative light. Being in the city made me realize how much I missed it. Baltimore has its special, unique charm that I have yet to find in any other city.

These past few years I’ve had a burning desire to give back to the community. I’ve been lucky enough to attend a prestigious private school in Baltimore County, McDonogh, from 5th grade till I received my diploma. Seeing how poor off the Inner-City Baltimore Public Schools are has sparked my interest in helping them out in anyway possible. Maybe I’ll become a teacher one day, who knows. Until then, a group of my friends are putting on a concert at McDonogh and all the proceeds goto the music programs in Inner-City schools. They’re good souls. I wish I didn’t have classes when at that time, I’d love to be a part of it.

Anyways, I went to my favorite place in Baltimore, Fells Point.
Fells Point, Baltimore

Something about this area just makes me feel at home. I remember going to the local pub to catch the Arsenal games my senior year. Fells Point is just so European, I think that’s why it draws me in.

One of my favorite places to go in Fells Point is the Soundgarden.

Soundgarden

Yeah, I’ve been spoiled by amazing Record Stores such as Easy Street and Sonic Boom in Seattle, but Sound Garden and Record and Tape Traders are held closer in my heart.

Needless to say, whenever I go music shopping I can’t help but spend a lot of money. The damage is always severe, it’s my addiction and I’m not going to quit anytime soon.

So this is what it’s like to have a blog. A pretty unfamiliar feeling, and I’m still a rookie but I’ll learn as I go along.

Tuesday (12/11/2007):

Anyways, I left Sea-Town on Tuesday, after being raped by finals, and despite my initial flight being cancelled. I Arrived to the familiarity of BWI Tuesday night. I was pretty exhausted when I got home and pretty much crashed after my ritual three way phone conversation with Prashant and Cory.

Wednesday (12/12/2007)

Wednesday was pretty awful, to say the least. I woke to find my Golden Retriever, Austin, was having seizures. Without getting into it too much, it turns out he had pretty severe brain cancer and my brother and I had to decide to put him to sleep as a result. Just writing about it is not getting me in the best of moods. He was 12 years old and most of my memories in life always had him in it, so it was a pretty painful day. Here’s a photo of him

Luckily, I have great friends that I completely adore and appreciate every minute of my life. When I got back home I already had a flood of texts, missed phone calls, and messages from friends and family all over the world. I ended up going to JHU in Baltimore to hang out with my good friend and neighbor, Katharine. She was well into finals week but managed to put that aside to spend the night hanging out with me, thanks for that. We ended up listening to some Christmas tunes, to say she’s a fan of Christmas would be the biggest understatement in the world, watched part of Casablanca and Love Actually, and capped off the night with dinner at the Papermoon diner. The Papermoon is by far my favorite place to eat in all of Baltimore.

Thursday (12/13/2007):

As soon as I woke up Thursday morning, I headed out to College Park, Maryland to see my friends out there. One of my best friends, Shams, had a break in the chaos of finals week so we hung out. Good times as always, he spotted me for lunch at the Diner and we just chilled, listened to music (he’s a big classics rock fan so mostly that stuff), and watched TV. The mitchell report came out at this time so we were watching ESPN. Baseball sucks. Here’s a nice polaroid of Shams:

(The scanner at my house sucks, to say the least. And there are absolutely places nearby to get my film developed so I apologize for the horrible quality. I’ll rescan these when I get the chance).

At around 4PM Shams had to skedaddle and my high school friends had just finished their finals so I decided to see how things were with them. Whenever we get together, it’s always good times so I had a blast. Addie, Akash, and Law have been my friends for as long as I can remember and even when we’re separated for months whenever we get back together it’s as if nothing has changed, and I love that. Here’s a shot of Akash and Law:

Law

Law was fascinated with the fact that I had a polaroid camera and felt obligated to label the polaroids with sharpies, because he is a big fan of Momento.

While I was at CP, I got a call from my good friend Cory and he wanted to see if I was down for seeing No Country for Old Men. I hadn’t seen it yet and wanted to know what all the fuss was about so I decided to go. Despite the fact that the ticket cost me $8.50. What the hell is up with that?

No Country

Needless to say, it was a great movie. The Coen Brothers still got it. It was by far in my top 3 of this year. Though I have a soft spot for Once and Hot Fuzz, I’m kind of Indie if you haven’t noticed.

Friday (12/14/2007):

The big plan for Friday was to see a Washington Capitals play the Buffalo Sabers in DC with my brother’s friends and Cory. My brother was feeling a bit under the weather though I still went with Cory and Asad, an amazing friend of our whole family. Cory and I drove down to Silver Spring and took the DC Metro to China Town (Verizon Center). Nostalgia slapped me in the face while doing this. Every week this summer I’d take the metro from Silver Spring to downtown in order to see a concert at the 930 Club. Such good times. When Cory and I got to the Verizon Center we met up with Asad and bought our student tickets ($10, wooo). We had a few hours to kill before the start of the game so we decided to have dinner at Ruby Tuesday.

The game was really enjoyable, despite the outcome. The Caps lost 3-2. It was kind of amazing seeing Ovechkin play in real life. I’m looking to goto the Canadiens/Caps game this coming Friday with my brother, so I hope that gets to happen. Here are some shots from that night:

Saturday (12/15/2007):
Saturday was pretty chill. Mostly just decompressing from the madness that was the past few days. Cory, Shams, and I decided to go see I Am Legend at the AMC by the mall. And it wasn’t even $8.50, it was $10.

scan0002.jpg

This will go down in history as being the second worst decision of my life. The first? Tim knows all about that. The movie was awful. I can’t really put it any other way. It really was a tragedy seeing such a feat of cinematic glory in No Country For Old Men and then having that good taste slapped out of our mouths so soon. After our eyes got raped, Cory and Shams came over that night and kicked it. Good times.

Sunday (12/16/2007):
Sunday was the day of Prashant’s big arrival. We all kind of freaked out because we didn’t know if his plane was going to get cancelled or not. Luckily, his flight arrived on time. I drove up to BWI with Cory and Sheryaar to pick him up. BWI’s parking garage charges $2 for every half hour of parking (the first half hour is free) so I had to repark my car one time because I’m frugal. This sacrifice prevented me from awkwardly hugging Prashant when he came through the gate. Don’t worry, I brought him in for the real thing anyways.

After we picked up Prashant, we (and by we I mean Prashant and Me) were craving Taco Bell. We went to the old stomping grounds of the sketchy Taco Bell on Rt. 40 and between the two of us we dropped $36 on Taco Bell. I am not proud of this. I am merely stating the facts. Don’t believe me? Here’s the receipt:

After we indulged (yes, we finished it all), we pretty much crashed. Somehow, we all didn’t goto bed until at least 7 AM. Prashant and Cory started playing Basketball outside at around this time. I believe they are sick in the head.

Monday (12/17/2007)

I’m surpised I made something out of this day, seeing as I woke up at 4PM. I got back to my house around 5 and then messed around with this blog. At around 9, I called Prashant to see if he wanted to skate. He did, and this made me happy. We parked both our cars down an abandoned street in our neighborhood and turned on our high beams. It’s been a while since we’ve skated, so it was really good to get back into it. After this, we headed back to Prashant’s house and messed around with some recording. I’ve been putting off getting a condenser mic for too long. The purchase will be made in the next few days so I can start recording my own stuff at home and at college. I’ll be sure to post whatever I get done on this blog. Stay tuned…
